Hi! I laughed and kept shaking my head in agreement while reading this post. Your day sounds like mine.

I have already begun my de-cluttering and unfortunately it does work. No more radio, no more tweets from tweetdeck, and no more igoogle until I have read the morning emails and gotten at least one task accomplished. It isn’t as fun but it more productive.

You can do it!

I’m sorry to say it, but I believe I landed my job (and I’m a symphony musician!) DUE to being female back in 1975.

I kept it because I played well, I’m happy to say.

But still, I sometimes think about how I won the job, and I know it was because I was a young, somewhat cute, 18 year old, being judged by three men. I honestly don’t know if I would have won the audition with the screen.

Those behind the screen auditions are better for many reasons.

Many of us focus on what we don’t want and constantly critique (difference people). First step is to switch to a positive frame: What DO we want? This allows us to begin the creative process of shaping our lives. Describing what we don’t want is little more than complaining. Describe what we do want and we start creating.

Thanks for the great comment! I agree, the traditional education system lends itself well to the traditional employment system, but not for folks who are geared towards free agency and independence. Nice website by the way, it looks like a great resource!

I think a lot of us (the self employed “us”) didn’t fit well in the educational machine. If we accept that part of the purpose of the educational system is to churn out good employees, it makes sense that people with a natural bent toward working for themselves might not do well in school.

I am a high school dropout – I was bored stiff in school and hated every minute of it. Is it any wonder that I also disliked employment?

I’ve been “free” fo a long. long time now..
